Our exhibition explores how Whitcombe & Tombs shaped Australian children’s understanding of the world through educational publishing. Through books, illustrations and archival material, the exhibition reveals the people, choices and processes behind what children read, saw and learned.

The exhibition is organised around four central questions: 1. Who decided what children should see; 2. how Australia was represented to young readers; 3. Who created the images and content; 4. How books were produced and distributed before reaching the classroom. Six projects respond to these questions from different perspectives.
